Label: Anand Tucker, Steve Martin Released: 11/12/2005

This heart-felt and bitter-sweet story dives into the hum-drum life of Mirabelle Buttersfield (Claire Danes), a disenchanted sales girl at a luxurious Beverly Hills department store, where she wiles away the days at the glove desk dreaming of breaking into the art scene with her unique drawings. Her monotony is broken as two men enter into her life: the awkward, but likeable Jeremy (Jason Schwarzman), a struggling amplifier designer, and the sophisticated and wealthy divorcee Ray (Steve Martin). An offhand remark by Mirabelle inspires Jeremy to pursue his ambitions and he embarks on an adventurous business project, touring the country with a rock and roll band, while the suave Ray enchants Mirabelle more and more with his lavish lifestyle. For a time, Mirabelle is enveloped in an amorous cloud, but Ray's emotional unavailability soon becomes a problem. Despite their time apart, Jeremy has not given up hope on his affections for Mirabelle and she suddenly finds herself having to make a difficult choice between the two very different men in her life. A very beautifully captured and quite unconventional love story, Steve Martin's screenplay infuses subtle humor, wit and intense emotion into a very human experience of relationships. Poetically photographed, the film has an uncanny smoothness. One smiles as one feels one's heart pinch, without a hint of sappiness or kitsch. This is one girls can take their guys to go see (and they won't even need to be dragged kicking and screaming).
